Special caution: the acetaminophen formula
Only the Max-Action cold, cough and fever formula in this selection contains acetaminophen: 650 mg per 20 mL. Do not combine it with another acetaminophen-containing medicine. Its maximum is four 20 mL doses in 24 hours.
The label warns of severe liver damage from exceeding that limit, combining acetaminophen products or having 3 or more alcoholic drinks daily while using it. Ask before use for liver disease or warfarin use.
Stop use and get immediate medical help for skin redness, blisters or rash. Consult promptly for a severe sore throat, one lasting more than 2 days, or one with fever, headache, rash, nausea or vomiting. Stop use and ask a doctor if fever worsens or lasts more than 3 days, or redness, swelling or new symptoms occur. An overdose requires immediate attention even without symptoms.
Warnings to review
- Do not use with a prescription MAOI or within 2 weeks of stopping one.
- Ask a doctor before use for heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disease, persistent cough or excessive phlegm.
- Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use with other oral nasal decongestants or stimulants.
- Stop use and ask a doctor for nervousness, dizziness or sleeplessness; symptoms that do not improve within 7 days or occur with fever; or persistent or returning cough with fever, rash or persistent headache.
- For formulas labeled for ages 12 and over, also ask about trouble urinating due to an enlarged prostate; ask a health professional before use during pregnancy or breast-feeding.
- Keep out of reach of children. For overdose, get medical help or contact Poison Control immediately: 1-800-222-1222.
Storage
Store at 15–30 °C (59–86 °F); do not refrigerate. Measure only with the included dosing cup and keep it with the bottle. Read the full product label before use; this guide does not replace its warnings.
Check for overlapping ingredients before combining cold medicines. A formula without acetaminophen can share other active ingredients with one that contains it. The Max-Action name alone does not identify the formula.
