LIENDREX: combing, second treatment and warnings

The shampoo, comb and second treatment serve different roles in LIENDREX directions. Following just one of these steps does not complete the process described in Drug Facts.

Directions from Drug Facts

  1. Read all warnings and package information. Shake well before use.
  2. Apply to dry hair or the affected area until all hair is thoroughly wet with the product.
  3. Leave on for 10 minutes, but no longer.
  4. Add enough warm water to form a lather and shampoo as usual. Rinse thoroughly.
  5. Use a fine-tooth or lice/nit-removal comb to help remove dead lice and nits.
  6. Apply a second treatment 7 to 10 days later to kill newly hatched lice.

Why a comb is included

The label states that a fine-tooth or special lice/nit-removal comb can help remove dead lice and their eggs from hair. Use the comb after washing as directed on your package. Combing does not change the shampoo's contact time.

The second treatment is part of the directions

Drug Facts directs a second treatment 7 to 10 days later for newly hatched lice. Do not leave the first application on longer than 10 minutes or replace the repeat treatment with a longer contact time.

When to stop and ask for advice

The label calls for medical advice for skin irritation or infection, or lice in eyebrows or eyelashes. Ask a healthcare professional when deciding whether the product is appropriate for a child.

Warnings and storage

For external use only. Use with caution in people allergic to ragweed. Do not use near the eyes or allow contact with mucous membranes, including inside the nose, mouth or vagina, because irritation may occur.

Keep eyes tightly closed until the product is rinsed out and protect them with a towel or other suitable material. If it enters the eyes, flush with water immediately. Stop use and ask a doctor if skin irritation or infection is present or develops, or if lice affect eyebrows or eyelashes.

Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Protect from freezing and excessive heat. Do not reuse the original container.
