APETOL’s Supplement Facts panel brings together amounts and percentages that answer different questions. Start with serving size, identify the age column and keep units beside each amount when comparing nutrients. This guide explains the panel for the 180 mL presentation sold by Mi Botiquín Latino.
Start with three details
- 10 mL: the serving size used in the panel.
- 18 servings: the number per 180 mL bottle.
- Two %DV columns: one for ages 2–3 and one for adults and children 4 years and older.
1. Begin with serving size
The label states 2 teaspoonfuls (10 mL). Nutrient amounts refer to those 10 mL, not the entire bottle. For example, the listed 4 mg of zinc are per serving.
Serving size alone does not tell you how often to use the product. That information appears in the age-specific directions. Check the APETOL product page and the package you receive; it is not intended for children under 2.
2. Read each amount with its unit
The panel uses grams (g), milligrams (mg) and micrograms (mcg). Vitamin B12 is expressed in mcg; the other listed vitamins, zinc and lysine are expressed in mg. A larger number does not necessarily mean a larger amount when the units differ.
| Nutrient | Amount | %DV ages 2–3 | %DV adults and children 4+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calories | 20 | — | — |
| Total carbohydrate | 5 g | 3% | 2% |
| Total sugars | 5 g | † | † |
| Includes added sugars | 5 g | 20% | 10% |
| Thiamin (B1) | 2.66 mg | 532% | 222% |
| Riboflavin (B2) | 2.66 mg | 532% | 205% |
| Niacin (B3) | 6 mg | 100% | 38% |
| Vitamin B6 | 0.66 mg | 132% | 39% |
| Vitamin B12 | 6 mcg | 667% | 250% |
| Zinc | 4 mg | 133% | 36% |
| Lysine | 200 mg | † | † |
† Daily Value not established in the panel. — No percentage shown. Percentages are transcribed from the package; consult the original panel for its complete notes.
3. Choose the age column before reading the percentage
The FDA explains that % Daily Value describes a nutrient’s contribution per serving relative to a daily reference value. It is different from the amount in mg or mcg.
On APETOL’s panel, the same 4 mg of zinc are listed as 133% for ages 2–3 and 36% for adults and children 4 years and older. The amount in the product stays the same; the reference used to calculate the percentage changes. Keep to the relevant column when comparing.
“Daily Value not established” does not mean the ingredient is absent. Lysine, for example, is listed at 200 mg even though it has no assigned percentage. A high percentage is not an instruction to increase the amount of product used.
4. Distinguish total sugars from added sugars
Per 10 mL, APETOL lists 5 g total sugars, including 5 g added sugars. Do not add them together to get 10 g: the added sugars are already part of the total. The panel also lists 20 calories and 5 g total carbohydrate per serving.
5. Finish with ingredients and warnings
Supplement Facts does not replace the full ingredient list. That list includes sucrose, preservatives, artificial butterscotch flavor and FD&C Red No. 40, as well as the listed forms of vitamins, zinc and lysine. Iron does not appear in the panel or ingredient list on the verified package.
The warnings state not to use during pregnancy or while nursing, and to consult a healthcare professional if you take medication or are under a physician’s care. Read all directions before use.
A quick check before comparing products
- Confirm that you are comparing the same liquid volume per serving.
- Read each amount with its unit.
- Use the relevant age column.
- Review ingredients outside the table too.
- Check the directions for use separately.
